Job summary
The Trust Wide Head of Patient Safety provides senior leadership, oversight, and expert knowledge on patient safety across the organisation, ensuring compliance with legislation and national, local and Trust systems, frameworks, and standards. The role is integral to ensuring that Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust meets key safety improvement and contractual / statutory requirements including full implementation of the national Patient Safety Strategy. The postholder will set a clear vision for patient safety across services.
Good governance is a key element of the post, ensuring that robust governance processes are in place with regard to the reporting, investigation and follow up of incidents, including deaths, in line with national and local requirements. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring more novel approaches to patient safety science and investigations are used [PSIRF/PSIRP] to generate a learning culture in the Trust, whilst ensuring meaningful engagement with patients and families, including ensuring processes are in place to support being open and the discharge of the statutory Duty of Candour.

Main duties of the job
The post holder, in liaison with other key professionals across the Trust, and functional heads within the Executive Director of Nursing/AHPs/Quality and the Medical Directors Office will lead on a broad range of patient safety improvement initiatives to ensure efficient, effective and high-quality standards of patient safety are developed and sustained.
The Head of Patient Safety will support the Associate Director of Quality elements of the Safety agenda including working with the Integrated Care System and NHS E programs associated with Patient Safety, Learning from Deaths [LFD], and the Medical Examiner [ME] system.
