Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Bank Paediatric Staff Nurse

The closing date is 24 November 2025

Job summary

Our Trust is seeking talented, caring, and enthusiastic Paediatric Staff Nurses to join our bank team. As a bank nurse, you'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to babies, children, and young people (ages 0-18) with a wide range of acute and chronic physical and mental health conditions, including end of life care, across our Paediatric Departments.

Our wards also support children with long-term conditions as they transition into adult services, ensuring continuity of care during this important stage. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside our dynamic outpatient teams, which include specialists in oncology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and the Compass service.

Why join our Bank team?

Flexibility: Choose shifts that fit around your lifestyle.

Weekly Pay: Enjoy the convenience of weekly pay options.

Variety: Gain experience across different paediatric settings.

If you're passionate about paediatric care and want the freedom to work in a supportive, collaborative environment, we'd love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

You should be a motivated, dynamic and caring registered practitioner who is able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical practice. You must possess excellent communication and team working qualities, with a willingness to learn new skills. You should also thrive on working in a busy environment and be forward thinking and passionate about delivering a high standard of care.

You will actively engage with the unit's multidisciplinary approach to care, ensuring that patients, parents, carers, and families are fully involved in their care journey. This aligns with the Trust's patient and public involvement strategy, which prioritises collaborative and holistic care.

Providing comprehensive care to patients of all ages and backgrounds, addressing both acute medical needs and long-term health management.

Join us in delivering exceptional paediatric care in a supportive and inclusive environment.

About us

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, and not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

We work hard to make sure that inclusion is part of everything we do. We know that true inclusion means we're able to provide the best care for our patients and provide a fulfilling career for all our colleagues.

We have six active and impactful colleague networks. These networks provide a safe space for colleagues to share their experiences and learn from one another, but also influence change across our trust:

Multicultural Network

Women's Network

Armed Forces' Network

LGBTQ+ Network

Lived Experience Network, for colleagues living with disabilities

Autistic Colleague Network

We offer a form of weekly pay via Wagestream. Bank Pay is an easy way to automatically get paid a percentage of the money you've already earned from any bank shifts completed the previous week. It means you don't have to wait until the end of the month for your bank shift pay, giving you more flexibility.

Don't worry - the remaining portion of your pay is set aside to make sure your tax contributions are paid in full and if your tax contributions amount to less than the money set aside you'll receive it all back at the end of each month.
