Job summary
Advanced clinical practice is delivered by experienced, registered health and care practitioners. It is a level of practice characterised by a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making. This is underpinned by a master's level award or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research, with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence. Advanced clinical practice embodies the ability to manage clinical care in partnership with individuals, families, and carers. It includes the analysis and synthesis of complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance people's experience and improve outcomes.
As a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine you will develop to the autonomous and independent Advanced Clinical Practitioner within an educationally and clinically supported, established programme. You be expected to see undifferentiated and undiagnosed patients across the age and acuity spectrum.

Main duties of the job
They will work with the ED multidisciplinary team, supported to seeing patients within all clinical areas of the department, developing towards qualified and credentialled ACP in Emergency Medicine in accordance with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practice curriculum. The post-holder will support decision making about the intervention plan and appropriate pathway of care with support and supervision from clinical and educational supervisors. If not held already, the post holder will be expected to complete academic level 7 modules in advanced clinical practice in line with the academic requirements also set out by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. The role is expected to be 80% clinical contact and 20% supported activities and will be required to be full time (37.5 hours per week).
The post-holder will use their expert clinical knowledge and skills in the assessment and treatment of Emergency Department attendees and be able to balance risks related to clinical, social and functional needs to make the most appropriate decision in a timely manner. This will include complex discharge of patients directly from ED and identifying the patients for whom admission to an inpatient speciality is the most appropriate destination. The post- holder will promote and demonstrate best practice in the care of Emergency Medicine patients using Royal College and National guideline based care.
