Job summary
The Trust has a diverse Estates portfolio, from RAAC in Hinchingbrooke Hospital which is part of the New Hospital Programme (NHP), to the PFI asset at Peterborough City Hospital and retained estate on the Peterborough Site and Stamford and Rutland Hospital.
The division is continuing to work more collaboratively across those portfolio's by developing a simple vision of focusing all our services around the patient, whilst holding high accountability for the finances we use. Assurance and compliance are the underpinning governance philosophies to all our services, and this role will support the Director of Estates and Facilities in providing that assurance to our community and Board.

Leading the Operational Estate and Capital Projects part of the portfolio, the post holder will have the opportunity to shape and influence the services we deliver for the next generation and as part of the NHP inform the design and compliance of those assets.
Main duties of the job
Accountable to the Director of Estates and Facilities, the post-holder will provide technical operational leadership and strategic direction for all engineering and infrastructure activities, including fire safety, across all Trust sites. In alignment with the strategic objectives set by the Director of Estates and Facilities, the post-holder will oversee the coordination of capital projects and backlog programmes.
The focus of this role is to prioritise patient safety, quality and experience through the management of our infrastructure and delivery of high-quality capital project and programme management. However, you will also be expected to act outside your portfolio as a senior leader within NWAFT.
This will be achieved through a structured process of accountability and compliance with statutory and non-statutory requirements, adhering to HTM/HBN standards along with best-practice and supported by a comprehensive framework of Authorised Engineers, Authorised Persons, and Certified Persons.
The role will also deputise for the Director of Estates and Facilities for Estates and Facilities services at NWAFT.

Provide professional engineering expertise for the sites to other estates staff, Directors, Senior Management, other internal customers of the organisation and provide advice and direction to external agencies where appropriate, at site levels.

The post-holder will lead on key areas of technical and estates management through directly employed staff, partner/contractor organisations in conjunction with the Head of PFI and Contracts and the Director of Estates and Facilities ensuring engineering maintenance and projects on all sites, including contract work, is carried out to appropriate standards and specifications, and in accordance with Health and Safety and NWAFT standards and processes.

Work closely with finance colleagues within NWAFT and system to support the ongoing development of the (currently) Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Infrastructure Strategy.

The role takes overall responsibility for delegated areas and provides a structure and process for the effective interface with all project activities to ensure that appropriate communications, safety arrangements and operating procedures are in place, and are timely and effective.

The post holder will provide leadership and direction in the event of any major incidents that have an engineering or infrastructure dimension to the cause and/or resolution, even to the extent of taking control should the impact be of a serious nature, in the absence of the Director of Estates and Facilities.
