Job summary

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Services. We are looking for a motivated and innovative individual who is professional, reliable, and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team. Applications from both Biomedical Scientists and Clinical staff are welcomed.The successful applicant will work within the Point of Care Testing (POCT) team, working across the Trust with staff of all grades from many different departments.Applicants must be registered with a professional body and have experience of working with POCT devices either from a clinical or laboratory perspective and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the requirements and responsibilities of a POCT service. A high standard of verbal and written English, computer skills and attention to detail is essential. Applicants must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Main duties of the job

Maintain and manage the POCT Service for TRFT, involving the following device types:o Blood glucose meterso Blood ketone meterso Urinalysis meterso Pregnancy testing meterso Blood gas analyserso HbA1c analyserso Hb & Hct meters Maintain the external quality assessment schedule for all managed devices. Maintain and update relevant departmental SOPs, training documents, CoSHH assessments, Risk Assessments and verification documents as required. To be involved in maintaining the current QMS systems with document renewal, non-conformances, asset module and audit. To be involved in the training of staff both within Pathology and clinical areas. To liaise with companies as required for training, troubleshooting, advice, and product notifications etc. To work independently with accuracy and precision to ensure equipment and records are maintained according to laboratory SOPs. To work safely in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines to protect yourself and others. This will include wearing the appropriate PPE, disposal of samples into the correct waste streams, dealing with any spillages and reporting any potential risks. To work in accordance with information governance and confidentiality guidelines to ensure no patient information is given to unauthorised personnel. To work closely with other members of the laboratory team and clinical teams of varying grades to produce an excellent service for staff and users.
