Stroke Specialist Nurse
Are you an experienced and compassionate healthcare professional with a passion for stroke care? To work as a senior skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic patient centred care for stroke patients. Ability to promote patient centred care and establish good relationships with patients and families/carers. To work in ED and on the stroke unit.
The successful candidate should have a passion for looking after stroke patients, in ED and on the stroke unit. Having no or little stroke experience should never stop anybody wanting to apply. To succeed in this role you will demonstrate the ability to work alone as well as part of a team and possess sound clinical assessment and communication skills.
Main duties of the job
To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
To be able to take charge of the unit clinically, in the absence of senior nursing staff and to support junior members of staff to develop their clinical skills and knowledge.
To be able to manage the patient flow within the department with consideration to target delivery and ensuring stroke patients get to the stroke unit within the allocated time.
As a Senior Staff Nurse / Stroke Specialist Nurse you will also be responsible for the initial assessment of the acute stroke patient in ED, initiation of the thrombolysis/thrombectomy pathway, facilitating patient flow within stroke, progression of admission and transfer of care into the community. If a stroke is suspected; the stroke nurse/ deputy sister will transfer the patient to the acute stroke unit at the earliest possible opportunity
Senior Staff Nurse / Stroke Specialist Nurse will gain extensive knowledge of stroke symptoms, along with neurological conditions that may present as a stroke mimic will be taught with a comprehensive training package. Cannulation and venepuncture are essential in this role. The applicant must have or must be willing to undertake this extended training that will be provided on the ward via SIM training, stroke specific university modules, conferences and teaching.
