Job summary

Our busy Inpatient/Acute Pain Service team is looking for a forward-thinking nurse who is experienced in or ready to work in specialist practice. To work with us you need to be enthusiastic about promoting patient comfort. The service is continuing to expand to ensure that inpatients and staff caring for them across all sites at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust are supported in a comprehensive manner.

You will need:

  • Experience of managing pain in patients with acute illness or post-surgery/trauma
  • Excellent communication skills with a kind, calm and diplomatic manner
  • Proven ability to communicate with patients and carers
  • Emotional resilience and ability to deal with patients in a high level of distress
  • Confidence to deal with complaints from service users and their relatives/friends or colleagues
  • Desire to work in an interdisciplinary team and develop your specialist nurse skills
  • Enthusiasm for teaching in formal and informal settings face-to-face and virtually.

You will work your hours primarily at Frimley Park or Heatherwood over 5 attendances per week (4 for part-time). Monday to Saturday on a shift basis either 08:30-16:30 or 11:00-19:00 (including Bank Holidays).

Main duties of the job

The post-holder whilst working predominantly in the inpatient setting will be required to support senior nursing colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team in the delivery and development of integrated pain services across the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

  • Working with Consultants in Anaesthetics, Consultants in Pain Medicine, Nurse Consultant, Nurse Specialist, and others in the multidisciplinary team to enable the Inpatient/Acute Pain Service to be responsive to the needs of inpatients with pain in general whilst supporting the health care professionals responsible for their care.
  • To facilitate and maintain the effective multi-disciplinary management of inpatients with pain throughout the Trust.
  • Working collaboratively to provide support, advice and education for all appropriate health care professionals.
  • Work with patients and carers.
  • Participate in audit and quality assurance systems in order to evaluate the effectiveness of inpatient pain services.
  • Demonstrate informed and evidence-based criteria in assessing pain, following treatment plans and evaluating pain management outcomes.
  • Clearly document and communicate planned episodes of care relating to pain management and/or relevant forward referrals.
  • The post holder will act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Practice 2018.
