Job summary
Supporting our journey towards digitising Histopathology Slides, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are looking to recruit a Digital Pathology PACS Specialist to work in the existing PACS Team.
With a targeted go-live of early 2024, this post will be invaluable in helping deliver transformational change across Histopathology - as well as the opportunity to work with other Trusts around the region in helping to shape the future of Digital Pathology in future years.
Main duties of the job
Acting as the lead Picture Archive Communication System Support Specialist, you will work with the Head of Radiology IT in helping to deliver and support the Pathology Department in the implementation and growth of their Digital Pathology Project, supporting them in their learning of PACS and its associated workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- To lead on supporting the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) for Digital Pathology
- As part of the Radiology PACS Team, the successful candidate would also be responsible for supporting the SWASH Radiology PACS, Radiology Information System (RIS), Voice Recognition (VR) and other systems connected to both Pathology and Radiology PACS across the Trust, supporting all system users and ensuring that the systems are functioning correctly so that the provision of PACS related services continues- which is clinically imperative
- To provide support to the Head of Radiology IT and the Pathology Department in the continued roll out of digital imaging within Pathology, along with associated workflow changes.
- To provide first line IT support to the Radiology Department, working closely with the PHT IT department to ensure smooth running of all IT infrastructure within Radiology.

Identify, analyse and resolve problems arising from incorrect use
or misunderstanding of DICOM modalities
and/or PACS workflow for both Pathology and Radiology
-
To liaise with the PACS Vendor/system supplier in the absence of
the Head of Radiology IT and/or Radiology PACS RIS Manager
-
Assist the Head of Radiology IT with ongoing PACS and workflow
developments within Pathology, including initial rollout, upscaling and
delivering the objectives set out by both PHU and the SCP
-
To have
significant discretion to work within a set of defined parameters
-
To work with Pathology and Radiology modality, PACS and RIS
vendors to ensure seamless integration of modalities and other imaging devices
-
Act as a key point of contact for Pathology PACS users, offering
support and practical advice where necessary
-
To be actively involved in providing a high quality service to
patients attending for imaging appointments, by ensuring quality control,
quality assurance and documentation procedures are in place with particular
regards to equipment, devices and computers used with the departments

To plan and provide training for other Trust staff in the use of
PACS, RIS, VR and Order Comms associated with Pathology and Radiology
-
To work with Trust MDT coordinators to ensure imaging is available
from outside Trusts from planned meetings where possible

Provide support for the Head of Radiology when and where required

Prepare or contribute to the preparation of business cases/plans
that involve the department information systems

Respond to directives from the Head of Radiology IT and the
Radiology PACS RIS Manager and assist in implementing policy decisions. Contribute to creation and changes in policy
to best utilise the PACS across both Pathology and Radiology as well as other
systems supported by the PACS Team.
Consider and review what the impact of changes will be required as new
departments utilise PACS, e.g. for other clinical specialties, and advise as
appropriate

Provide staff contact point for Pathology PACS related problems
and support contact for Radiology PACS and associated IT systems.

Provide first line troubleshooting for Pathology and Radiology
PACS, RIS and Radiology IT issues

Share responsibility for Health and Safety and welfare of
patients, staff and others whilst in the department

Liaise with appropriate companies to ensure that servicing,
maintenance, issues and repairs are carried out according to department
guidelines

To represent the Trust at Consortium meetings, when required for
Digital Pathology

Ensure that a positive and professional image is presented to
users of the imaging Services, and that positive relationships are developed
and maintained

To take part in formal testing of any upgrades to key clinical
systems including (but not limited to) Pathology and Radiology PACS, Radiology
RIS and ICE

Be versatile and adaptive to the demands of the team. Work without supervision and take the
initiative as and when required

To manage and co-ordinate the service provided to consultants,
clinical staff and operational managers at all levels across the Trust in their
use and potential use of both the Pathology and Radiology PACS systems and
supporting Radiology IT systems, whilst maintaining system security and the
integrity of the confidential data held within

- At least 3 years practical experience of using patient focussed IT based information systems
