Portsmouth CAMHS are a vibrant and skilled team who are looking for someone who will bring their passion and dedication to working in Children and Adolescents Mental Health. We are one of the only CAMHS services that are fully accredited with the QNCC (Quality Network for Community CAMHS) in the country. Now you're interested!

Working with a diverse population, we provide a specialist mental health service to children aged 0-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs along with their families to improve their day to day lives. As a multi-agency team, we have strong relationships within the region to ensure our young people receive the right care, by the right professional, at the right time.

You could be a registered nurse, social worker or occupational therapist with experience of working with children and their families. No experience? No problem! We can offer you an extensive training period to ensure you have the skills to do the role comfortably. Ultimately, we just want you to be you; a good communicator, a great listener and a non-judgemental individual to allow the relationships to build with our young people and support them through their challenges.

We are looking to recruit to a band 6 role, however we would also consider a band 5 development opportunity for someone who needs the time and support to grow into the role.

Main duties of the job

* To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for assessments, formulation of systemic, evidenced based treatment, reviews and discharge summaries and be accountable for professional actions and policies.

* To be responsible for delivering specialist child and adolescent intervention in a way that is integrated with the work of other disciplines with in the team and wider Children and Family Service.

* To be responsible where appropriate to liaise closely and integrate the work of specialist CAMHS with the work of other agencies.

* To provide guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to individual programmes of care.

* To attend Core Group meetings and Team Around the Child meetings and other relevant meetings as required.

* To ensure children, young people and their carers/significant others are included in planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

* To ensure care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring the gender, ethnic cultural and spiritual needs of service users inform practice.

* To act in accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children's Act 1994 and other legislation

* To participate in regular supervision systems and the Individual Appraisal Review and Continuing Professional Development.

* To participate in the Single Point of Access (SPA) rota as required

* To offer and support group work as required

Essential

  • Nationally recognised core qualification i.e. RN, RMN, Social work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, CBT Therapist, Creative therapist
  • Professional Qualification at degree level or equivalent
  • Evidence of post registration courses / CPD evidence at a post grad level (not necessarily masters level)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families/carers where appropriate as a full member of a multi disciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatients or inpatient settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of children, adolescents and their families/carers across the whole range and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of working assertively with a hard to engage client group
  • Good knowledge of the theory and practice of short term and long term child and adolescent mental health, development and psychiatry and its application to a specialist area.
  • Advanced knowledge of legislation in relation to children and adolescents including child protection procedures and policies
  • Knowledge of NHS, Social Care and Educational Structures, National policies and frameworks
  • A knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunities and Promoting Diversity
  • Good level of specialist CAMHS knowledge which is evidence based
