Band 6 Macmillan Dietitian - Therapies - Nutrition and Dietetics

The closing date is 08 December 2025

Job summary

Are you an experienced Band 5 or an established Band 6 dietitian looking to gain experience within cancer care? At University Hospitals Birmingham (Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull sites) we are looking for a motivated, flexible and enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly team. This is a full-time permanent post, although part-time hours and flexible working will be considered.

We are made up of a supportive team of oncology dietitians and will help a new post holder to transition into the role. We are contained within a wider department of welcoming and approachable dietitians. We provide inpatient and outpatient dietetic support to a range of tumour sites, including: Upper GI, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Haematology, HPB, Lung and Lower GI.

We are committed to supporting the ongoing personal and professional development of our staff and offer excellent training and development opportunities. The clinical caseload varies from acute inpatients to MDT outpatient clinics or dietitian from home clinics. The service works closely with our multidisciplinary colleagues within MDTs and joint therapy clinic reviews. The successful applicant will receive training from an experienced multidisciplinary team in the care of the Macmillan patients. This will expose the successful candidate to a wide range of cancer and palliative conditions with a variety of therapy interventions.

This is a fantastic time to join our team as we continue to develop our service.

Main duties of the job

Post registration experience in an acute NHS hospital setting is required to be able to support the team as a source of dietetic clinical knowledge and experience. The successful candidate should have experience of working as part of the MDT and have a range of clinical skills in different areas to be able to clinically reason complex scenarios and formulate an appropriate treatment plan for the patient. The post holder will provide support for the oncology service which will involve seeing patients in MDT clinics, on inpatients wards, in outpatient clinics or over telephone clinics.

Part of the role includes the supervision or Band 5s and students, and is able to demonstrate the application of these skills. They must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills which they use to overcome barriers whether that be within an MDT or with the patient. IT skills are required as all notes are completed with electronic records.

As service development is a key part of the role, we are looking for an innovative and self-motivated Dietitian. In return, we will provide support lots of exciting opportunities for personal development and quality improvement or research projects; driving forward change and the development of new pathways within our Macmillan Dietetic service
