Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Learning Disability Nurse to join our small team of Learning Disability Nurses, nurse associates and trainee nurse associates within the wider Solihull Children's Community Nursing Service. This band 6 role involves managing your own caseload, supervision and support of junior members of staff and students and working closely with the children's community and special schools nursing teams. You will also be the vulnerabilities link nurse between the community and UHB trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, hard working Learning Disability Nurse who is passionate about working with children with Moderate to Severe and profound Learning Disabilities and passionate about ensuring inclusion and accessibility to their local community.

The team provides a high quality service to children and their families concentrating on the following areas: continence, sleep hygiene, behaviour, health promotion and short breaks. You will attend multidisciplinary meetings, safeguarding meetings and liaise closely with children, families and other professionals so excellent communication skills are essential.

This role is a full time role. This service is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. This is a community based role so daily access to your own vehicle is essential.

Main duties of the job

Ideally you will have experience working with Children and young people and a minimum of 2 years experience in a community setting. You will be expected to assess children in their home and educational settings and plan strategies in conjunction with children, young people and their parents/carers and support with the implementation of these strategies. Evaluation of the teams input will be required on an on-going basis and you will effectively manage an active caseload, new referrals and link work to the local special schools.

You will be responsible for keeping all clinical and safeguarding records up to date and in line with NMC guidelines and responsible for maintaining high standards of care and practice across the team.

The team undertakes workshops with groups of parents and children and young people and supports medical clinics within schools. You will be ensuring the workshop material is current and evidence based and contribute to the planning and delivery of these.

You will have shared responsibility with the team lead to help manage rosters, provide supervision and support to the team . You will also support the team lead with sickness management, appraisals, audits and any relevant team meetings .
