Job Title:Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Location: Marie Curie,Bradford Hospice

Salary:NHS Pay Circular M&D 2/2025 £109,725 to £145,478 per annum(Placement on the salary scale is dependent on experience).

Availability supplement:1 in 8 Consultant on-call commitment,5% availability supplement

Hours:10 PAs +anadditional0.125PA perweek.

Contract:6-monthfixed-term contract withthe potential for ongoing permanent sessions

The post holder will work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to support palliative care provision in both the in-patient unit and theMarie Curie REACT virtual ward, with theEmergency departmentin reach. The post holder will provide a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence to whom staff, patients, and carers can turn forassistance, advice, and support.

The role also involves participation in the hospital's training and education work, e.g.,undergraduateand postgraduate teaching programmes, clinical supervision of junior medical staff, andcollaboration with internal and external healthcare professionals.

In addition, the post holder willbe expected to engage with the service's management, clinical governance, research, and service development activities.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on, or eligible within 6 months of, theinterview dateto be includedon the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine (via CCT, CESR,or EC rights).

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Higher Medical Qualification: FRCP; MRCP; FRCA; MRCGP
• GMC registered medical practitioner with a licence to practise
• Be on or be eligible within 6 months from the date of interview for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine (via CCT, CESR or EC rights).

Desirable

• An appropriate higher degree (MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

• Experience of palliative care in a wide range of settings
• Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrable person-centred, compassionate leadership skills
• Ability to take on full responsibility for the independent management of patients and running a service

Desirable

• Evidence of role in the development of clinical service
• Evidence of cross-site working, including acute care

Personal attributes

Essential

• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues in other disciplines
• Able to organise time efficiently and effectively
• Able to motivate colleagues

Teaching, audit and research

Essential

• Committed to formal and informal teaching and training of registrars, junior doctors and medical students
• Participation in audit, quality improvement and quality assurance projects
• Previous experience of teaching, designing, and effecting audit programmes
