Job summary
Burscough Family Practice is seeking to recruit a Medical Receptionist for 34 hours per week over 4 days.
With a patient population of almost 3000, we are a small friendly practice and work very closely as a team.
We are looking for someone with proven customer service experience and excellent communication skills. The ability to work under pressure, to deal with conflict management and be self-motivated is a key skill for a job in General Practice.
Previous experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.
Starting salary from £11.44 to £11.75 per hour.
Main duties of the job
The
purpose of the role is to:
Offer
general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly
image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone or email at
all times.
Receive,
assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare
professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
Undertake
a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice
including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff
and other members of the practice team.
Facilitate
effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care
team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.

Burscough Family Practice is a high performing, well ran, innovative, supportive and small practice based in the centre of Burscough, Lancashire.
We pride ourselves on valuing staff and supporting development at all levels.
Our Practice Team consists of 1 GP Partner and 3 GP's, Practice Nurse, General Practitioner Assistant (GPA) who are all supported by our Medical Reception Team. We expect our Reception team to also undertake basic clinical coding.
In addition to GP and Nursing appointments the Practice also delivers enhanced services to the local Primary Care Network such as Minor Surgery and Sexual Health Service, some of which are ran outside of normal core hours.
The Practice is easily accessible on the main bus routes and rail services and there is adequate public parking.

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice reception team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the management team, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:
- Opening up/locking-up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
- Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
- Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
- Taking messages and passing on information
- Filing and retrieving paperwork
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
- Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers
- Clearing and re-stock consulting rooms as required
- Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required from time to time, including word/data processing, filing and scanning
- Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
- Dealing with clinical waste
- Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required; keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy
- Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
