Job summary

West Oak Surgery are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our small, but established, Practice based in Mapperley, Nottingham for 6-8 sessions per week.

Our staff maintain the highest standards of care, whilst incorporating the traditional values of family medicine within a warm and friendly environment; and we are seeking an enthusiastic and team-oriented doctor who would like to join our hard working but friendly and supportive GMS team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will practice in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service. You may also be expected to participate in the Practices activities relating to its function as a training practice.

Job responsibilities

Main duties of the role

As a salaried GP at West Oak Surgery you will provide primary healthcare services to patients in all required environments. You will be expected to participate in practice activities including clinical and staff meetings, audits, and relevant CPD activities; you will also take a role in the development of the Practice.

The post-holder will practice in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service. You may also be expected to participate in the Practices activities relating to its function as a training practice.

Daily Clinical Responsibilities

In accordance with the session rota, as agreed, the post-holder will be available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with tasks, queries, and other paperwork in a timely manner.

  • Refer patients to specialist services in hospitals.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Plan and provide appropriate treatment.
  • Commission health care by liaising with medical professionals in the community and hospitals.
  • Promote health education in conjunction with other health professionals.
  • Organise preventative medical programmes for individual patients.
  • Keep up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments and medications, including complementary medicine; discuss the introduction of new pharmaceutical products to our formulary with our Clinical Pharmacist and liaising with them.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings. Partners meetings and business/strategic planning.
  • Show a commitment to professional development.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or external organisations.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the accepted prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Understand the importance of evidence based practice and clinical effectiveness.
  • Understand Clinical Governance.
  • Demonstrate good written English and spoken skills.
  • Have a solutions focused approach.
