Job summary

Summary:

  • To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
  • The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, patient education and assist and maintaining the recording and updating of emergency drugs/supplies.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced HCA minimum 1 yrs experience as a HCA in either a GP surgery or hospital setting.

The Ideal candidate must be hardworking, compassionate and willing to learn and have focus on patient care. Ideally we would like some Systm 1 trained but will be willing to train.

Main duties will be to support with contractual duties with QOF & PiP, health promotion, phlebotomy and infection control.

About us

Crawford Street Surgery is an NHS GP Practice located in Central London between Marylebone Station and Baker Street Station.

We are serve a diverse community including a large number of university students.

We are medium size practice with over 7000 patients, the clinical team consist of 3 GPs, 1 Practice Nurse, 3 ANPs and 4 admin staff, we are looking for someone dynamic to add to our team

Healthcare Assistant

Role Summary:

  • To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
  • The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, patient education and assist and maintaining the recording and updating of emergency drugs/supplies

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Undertake diabetic checks including blood testing, foot checks and health promotion referrals
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • When trained, administer flu vaccinations
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • When trained, undertake venepuncture
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Participate in practice IPC audit as directed by the Clinical IPC lead
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
  • Complete openingand closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
