Job summary

We are looking for an experienced full time Practice Nurse to join us and help provide a comprehensive nursing service to our patients of Hailsham.

We would consider applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates seeking a much-reduced part-time role.

We are a training practice within the market town of Hailsham near the South Downs National Park and the Sunshine Coast.

Main duties of the job

The role will primarily focus upon all areas of Practice Nursing inclusing chronic disease managment. Experience in COPD, Asthma and Diabetes would be an advantage

The successful candidate will be joining a forward thinking and well supported clinical team. Our training practice has 2 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 1 Senior Clinical Pharmacist and Partner, Allied Healthcare Professionals, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associate, Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified nurse to join a supportive and dynamic General Practice team. The role will provide the opportunity to develop further clinical skills in primary care, with training and mentorship to support professional growth. The practice nurse will contribute to high-quality patient care, health promotion, and chronic disease management while working within the scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Conduct initial patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, and lifestyle risk factors.
  • Administer vaccinations and immunisations, including childhood, flu, and travel vaccines.
  • Assist in long-term condition management, including diabetes, asthma, COPD, and hypertension.
  • Provide wound care, dressings, and removal of sutures/staples.
  • Support family planning and sexual health services.
  • Carry out NHS Health Checks and routine screenings.
  • Offer smoking cessation advice and health promotion support.
  • Assist in minor surgery procedures and chaperoning where required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using clinical IT systems.

Professional Development & Training:

  • Participate in a structured induction and mentorship programme to aid confidence and competence in general practice nursing.
  • Engage in ongoing training in line with professional development requirements and surgery needs.
  • Attend clinical meetings, training sessions, and multidisciplinary team discussions.

Teamwork & Practice Development:

  • Work collaboratively with the nursing team, GPs, AHPs, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff to provide patient-centred care.
  • Contribute to practice audits, quality improvement initiatives, and infection control measures.

  • Organised and able to prioritise workload in a busy primary care setting.
