Job summary

The ideal candidate would be a HCA NVQ Level 3 in Primary Care/Secondary Care

Experience in General Practice would be an advantage. The post would be 37 hours per week with a set working pattern to be discussed.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the delivery of patient care, ensuring that patient safety and well-being is respected at all times. This will include taking significant numbers of blood samples, therefore experience in phlebotomy is essential.

Carrying out new patient checks, testing urine, blood pressure checks, pulse, heights, weights, BMI Checks, ECGs and assisting with BP monitoring. Effecting monitoring of patient recalls and supporting the Practice Nurse with the management of Chronic Disease Clinics. Support the Practice Nurse with health Promotion Programmes. Act as chaperone as required. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation. When trained administer Flu vaccinations and other vaccinations/B12s.

Communicate courteously and effectively with patients, relatives and carers.

Ensure the practice treatment/consulting rooms are kept in a clean and tidy state and that equipment is in working order, clean and available for use.

To ensure that the drug refrigerators are at the correct temperature and that drugs are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence. To fridges are cleaned routinely.

Ensure Clinical sharp's bins are correctly stored and managed within clinical areas, and disposed of safely.

Ordering as appropriate, ensuring that adequate levels of stock are available and stocking rooms.

Report all matters pertaining to patient care to a relevant member of the nursing or medical team as a matter of priority and to ensure that a document record is kept.

About us

We are a friendly and busy GP surgery based in Chirk. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Health Care Assistant with a strong emphasis on good teamwork and flexibility to join our team. We are a training practice housed in a modern health centre with 8 GP partners, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 4 Practice Nurses and a practice pharmacist. The practice has a current patient list size of 9400. As a member of the practice based nursing team to assist nurses and GPs in the delivery of the highest standard of patient care, ensuring that this is is sensitive to the needs of the patient.
