Job summary

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join the friendly and supportive clinical team at Rothwell & Desborough Healthcare Group.

The post holder will support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care as part of the multidisciplinary team, working across both Rothwell Medical Centre and Desborough Surgery. The role involves delivering a range of clinical duties, supporting long-term condition management, health promotion, and preventative care services.

The successful candidate will work independently within their scope of practice while also supporting GPs, practice nurses, and the wider team to ensure safe, effective, and responsive patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a range of clinical procedures including phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, and injections (e.g. B12 where appropriate)
  • Support long-term condition (LTC) monitoring, including basic reviews such as blood pressure and lifestyle assessments
  • Carry out NHS Health Checks and promote health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Perform routine observations such as blood pressure monitoring and urinalysis where required
  • Support national and local vaccination programmes, including flu campaigns
  • Assist in health promotion and patient education to encourage healthy lifestyles
  • Maintain accurate clinical records using SystmOne in line with practice protocols
  • Act as a chaperone and assist GPs and nurses during patient examinations and procedures
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times
  • Undertake stock checks and support cold chain management of vaccines and medications
  • Recognise and escalate any concerns about patient health or safeguarding in line with practice policies
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within the clinical team

    We are a two-site practice located in the towns of Rothwell and Desborough (1 mile apart), with a combined list size of approximately 22,000 patients, which continues to grow.

    Our team includes 7 GP partners, 8 salaried GPs, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, and HCAs. We are supported by an experienced management, administrative, secretarial, and reception team.

    • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
    • Phlebotomy trained
    • Enhanced DBS check
    • Full UK driving licence
    • Right to work in the UK
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Strong organisational and time management skills
    • Ability to maintain accurate clinical records
    • Professional, caring, and patient-focused approach
    • Understanding of infection control and clinical governance

    Desirable

    • Previous healthcare experience
    • Experience working in general practice
