Join our friendly, welcoming team at Roundwell Medical Centre as a Phlebotomist or Trainee Phlebotomist. We're a busy dispensing GP practice serving around 15,200 patients in Costessey, Norwich, and we're looking for someone with a calm, caring manner to join our clinical team.
Whether you're an experienced phlebotomist ready to hit the ground running, or completely new to the role, we'd love to hear from you. If you're new to phlebotomy, we'll give you full training and support through to in-house competency sign-off no experience necessary, just the right attitude and a willingness to learn.
You'll play a genuinely valued part in our patients' care, helping people feel at ease during blood tests and working closely with our wider clinical team. We ask for flexibility to cover occasional early starts (from 7am) and extended hours as part of the rota, and in return you'll get proper training, ongoing support, and access to the NHS Pension Scheme.

Main duties of the job
Your day-to-day will involve taking blood samples from patients (venepuncture), making sure they feel comfortable and informed throughout, and processing samples accurately for the lab. You'll manage your own clinic list, keep patient records up to date, and work closely with our GPs and nursing team escalating any concerns quickly and professionally. If you're training, you'll build up to working independently through supervised practice and competency sign-off.

Job Summary
Roundwell Medical Centre is a dispensing GP practice serving around 15,200 patients in Costessey, Norwich. This is a combined advert covering both a Trainee Phlebotomist and an already-trained/qualified Phlebotomist.
The post-holder will provide a high-quality phlebotomy service to patients, ensuring blood samples are taken safely, accurately and in line with practice protocols. Full training and in-house competency sign-off will be provided to a successful trainee applicant; a qualified applicant will be expected to demonstrate current competency from the outset.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture (blood sample collection) on patients in line with practice protocols and, for trainees, following successful in-house competency sign-off
- Prepare patients for the procedure, explain what is involved, and check identity and consent before proceeding
- Correctly label, package and process blood samples for onward transport to pathology services, following current guidance
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records on the clinical system
- Maintain infection prevention and control, and health and safety standards, at all times
- Manage own clinic list, including booking, rebooking and prioritising appointments as needed
- Recognise and escalate concerns about a patient's condition, or a failed/difficult sample, to a clinician promptly
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of phlebotomy consumables, reporting shortages
- Attend and complete all mandatory training, plus phlebotomy-specific training and annual competency review
- Work flexibly across the practice's opening hours, including occasional early starts (from 7am) and extended hours as required by the rota
- Carry out any other duties reasonably requested that are commensurate with the role
Training and Development
Full training will be provided to a trainee post-holder. The post-holder must attend all required training and pass in-house competency sign-off before undertaking unsupervised venepuncture. Ongoing competency will be reviewed periodically in line with practice policy.
Confidentiality
The post-holder must maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and staff information at all times, in line with the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR and the practice's Information Governance policies.
Health and Safety
The post-holder is required to work within practice health and safety policies at all times, including infection control, safe handling of clinical waste and sharps, and use of personal protective equipment.
