Job summary

BatterseaPCN is looking for motivated, enthusiastic experienced paramedic to join our expanding team. This is an opportunity to be involved in developing new ways of working in primary care with our friendly, forward-thinking practice teams. Battersea is a fantastic place to work with its diverse, varied population, proximity to central London and beautiful open spaces such as Battersea Park and Clapham Common.

The Paramedic Practitioner will work autonomously within the GP Practices and the community, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills, to provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems such as minor illness or injury, abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches and holistic needs assessment of patients with long term conditions. The Paramedic Practitioner will have a key role in supporting delivery of the new Network Contract DES Service specifications.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will work closely with our GPs, PCN clinical pharmacists, nurses, physician associates, administrative and reception teams. You will have good time-management skills and be able to prioritise tasks and work independently.

Battersea PCN comprises5 GP surgeries in a compact area of North Battersea (Bridge Lane, Lavender Hill, Battersea Fields, Queenstown Road, Battersea Rise) with a combined population ofapproximately 55,000patients. Job responsibilities

The Paramedic Practitioner will:

  • Assess and triage patients, including same day triage, and as appropriate provide definitive treatment.
  • Undertake home visits for acute illness or chronic disease management.
  • Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly.
  • Assess, diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs and those at risk of developing a long term condition.
  • Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management.
  • Perform specialist health checks and perform investigatory procedures as required.
  • Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, etc
  • Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans and lead certain community services (e.g. monitoring blood pressure).
  • Provide an alternative model to urgent and same day GP home visit for the network and undertake clinical audits.
  • Communicate effectively with all colleagues across the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous health records.
  • Offer paediatric related services and clinics.
  • Independent prescribing. We will consider applications from Paramedic Practitioners who have not yet achieved this and they would be supported to do so in time.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in dealing with a diverse range of people in a customer/patient environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years post registration experience in clinical practice, or less if progressed through the national fast track programme.
  • Successful completion of the NQP period or equivalent previous experience which can be evidenced.
  • Up-to-date continuing professional development portfolio.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, responsibility and accountability.

Desirable

  • Primary care experience.
  • Healthcare experience within NHS, nursing or voluntary organisation.
  • Experience of supervision, mentorship and development of a range of clinical staff in relevant practice settings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Driving license held
  • HCPC registered paramedic
  • Educated to degree/diploma level in paramedicine or equivalent experience
