Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Practice Nurse to join our well-established nursing team. Practice Nurses are key part of our clinical team and essential in managing chronic diseases as well as wound care, cytology, immunisations and other treatment room services.
The post holder will work with reference to practice agreed protocols, policies and guidelines, providing nursing treatments to patients both independently and in participation with nurse colleagues.
Main duties of the job
- Specialism in Respiratorycare
- Basic wound care ulcer care doppler
- Removal of sutures
- Urinalysis
- Peak flow readings
- Venepuncture
- Routine immunisations
- Travel Vaccinations
- Chronic disease clinics
- Cytology
- Family planning
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs, cytology
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate
- Clean and maintain equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Ordering of stock
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required
- On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
- A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to the practice manager
- To work only in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and within the scope of professional practice
- To have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up to date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the NMC
- Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings
- Membership of the RCN
- To participate in collecting QOF data and other incentive schemes as needed by the practice, prompting other members of the team as needed in assistance in gathering the required data.
