Due to the upcoming retirement of the post-holder an exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Pharmacist to lead and manage the Clinical Pharmacy Teams working in the Paediatric and Adolescent Oncology Services at the Great North Childrens Hospital and Adult Cancer Services at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. We are looking for an individual who not only has considerable experience in cancer services but also someone with management experience and the vision required to further develop services.

The Paediatric and Adolescent Oncology Unit is a designated Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) Centre and covers the whole of the Northern region, the Northern Centre for Cancer Care provides chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant services to adult oncology and haematology patients as well as radiotherapy for both adults and paediatrics. Both units have strong links with the cancer researchers working at Newcastle University and are active recruiters to a large number of clinical trials. As an experienced clinician the post holder will be expected to propose and participate in research with Newcastle School of Pharmacy and provide lectures as and when required. Supporting the development of Band 6 Foundation Pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists, pharmacy and medical students is also considered key to this role.

Working at a local, regional and national level the post holder will be expected to influence and implement strategic developments in cancer services. Regular attendance at Directorate meetings will be expected to help ensure the profile of pharmacy is maintained and opportunities for future developments are realised such as providing pharmacist prescribing support in the outpatient clinic and ambulatory care settings. The post holder will also be expected to attend regional and national meetings to help influence and keep abreast of upcoming changes in cancer services.
