As a major teaching Trust, with extensive elective and emergency theatre activity based across both our Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital sites, we are delighted to be able to offer opportunities for highly motivated, ambitious individuals to join one of a number of Surgical Rotation posts. We have several positions available to commence from 1 August 2018, comprising three 4 month rotations which may include any of the following areas:

Anatomy Demonstration

Plastic Surgery

Paediatric Surgery

General Surgery



HPB & Transplant

Cardiothoracic Surgery

If you are interested in pursuing a surgical career, and wish to gain exposure to, and experience in, a wide range of high quality surgical placements, then you should apply today. These posts would be ideal for those interested in, but currently unsuccessful in, gaining a Core Surgical Training placement. Some posts may include a 4 month Anatomy Demonstration attachment in Newcastle University Medical School.

These surgical rotations are not accredited training posts, but content is organised to mirror Core Surgical Training. Successful applicants will be supervised in the same way as individuals undertaking Core Surgical Training, and will have their competence progression reviewed at the end of their year in post. All posts are initially for a period of 12 months, but with the possibility of extension up to 24 months subject to adequate progression. Where a second year is offered, the Surgical Rotation Co-ordinator will organise this, providing candidates with exposure to different specialties with the aim to mirror experience offered in Core Surgical Training. Post holders will also have access to opportunities for development within the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre (NSTC).
