The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.


The Oxford Regional Genetics service offers integrated molecular genetics and cytogenetic investigations for a wide range of routine, specialist and complex inherited and acquired genetic disorders to patients and their families from Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Swindon and Northamptonshire. The molecular genetics laboratory also provides a national and international service for a number of specialist disease areas.

We are one of the Genomic Medicine Centres delivering the 100,000 Genomes Project and we work closely with the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre developing new technologies for NHS diagnostics.

The laboratories are accredited as a training centre for Healthcare Scientist, Practitioner and Higher Specialist training.

We have a fixed term vacancy for a band 7/6 Clinical Scientist to join our existing team of scientists, bioinformaticians and technologists. This is a maternity cover post and will be based within the Molecular Genetics Cardiac section. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with significant laboratory experience.

For appointment as a Clinical Scientist the candidate will be registered with HCPC or close to completion of training in a diagnostic genetics laboratory or with considerable experience in a research setting. Consideration will also be given to experienced Genetic technologists with significant experience in a diagnostic laboratory.
