An exciting opportunity has arisen with increased funding for a new Band 7 post in the Early Supported Discharge Service for Stroke in Hillingdon. This is a part-time (0.5 WTE) post based in Hillingdon providing intensive speech and language therapy to people who have had a stroke. The SLT service is provided from Monday to Friday for up to 6 weeks following early discharge from hospital. All care is provided to patients in their own homes. You will be working with another part-time SLT already in post with the ESD Stroke team. You will also be working as part of the out-patient SLT service in Hillingdon to provide longer term SLT to those with acquired disorders of swallowing and/or communication due to neurological issues. This could be for an extra 7.5 – 15 hours per week due to another team member wishing to reduce their hours. So we will consider applicants who wish to work from 18.75 up to 33 hours per week.

You will be experienced in management and therapy for aphasia, dysarthria and dysphagia following stroke. You will work closely as part of a multi-disciplinary team of nurse, physio, OT and rehabilitation support workers as well as reablement carers. The team will work closely together to set clear goals with the patients and carers and develop an effective treatment plan. The ESDT for Stroke is a joint enterprise between CNWL NHS Foundation Trust, Hillingdon Hospital a, social services and the Stroke Association.

You will be working alongside other speech & language therapists, who provide longer-term care for adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing on an out-patient and domiciliary basis. We have excellent connections with the local Stroke Association communication support organiser and groups.

Competence in dysphagia is essential and the ability to undertake videofluoroscopy assessment would be an advantage.

The service provides SLT to adults with acquired disorders of swallowing and or communication across the London Borough of Hillingdon who are in the community. There are regular team meetings, good peer support with robust clinical supervision and excellent opportunities for training.

Hillingdon is part of North West London with good connections to central London via the tube and rail systems. It can also be easily accessed from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and South Hertfordshire if you are driving.
