UK NEQAS Haematology is the expert centre within UK NEQAS for the provision of external quality assessment (EQA) for all aspects of automated cell counting, morphology and inherited red cell disorders. UK NEQAS Haematology delivers a diverse and extensive programme of EQA services to 1400 participating laboratories in the UK and worldwide, which is set to develop in the near future to meet the requirements of service users.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and versatile HPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the UK NEQAS General Haematology scientific team. Reporting directly to the Senior EQA Scientist, you will ensure that the UK NEQAS Haematology programme of services is delivered in a timely, cost-effective and professional manner.

We would expect you to be HCPC registered hold a Biomedical Science degree or an equivalent professional qualification. You will have substantial practical experience of working in a routine haematology hospital laboratory. You must demonstrate an understanding of the aims of EQA and the principles of quality management. Experience, knowledge and interest in automated cell counting would be an advantage.

You will require good analytical, IT and laboratory skills. Flow cytometry and Haemoglobinopathy experience would be desirable. Experience in staff management and team leadership, with the planning and organisational skills to manage multiple work streams, would also be an advantage. You will have good communication skills, enjoy exchanging ideas and influencing policy and must be self-motivated, able to adapt to changing priorities and willing to implement change.

UK NEQAS Haematology is operated by the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and the post is an NHS appointment, based at Watford Hospital.
