With a budget of around £270m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

A position has arisen for a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Multi Craft Engineering Mechanical bias based within the above organisation.

Support service installations and their maintenance are an essential part of the NHS and form a vital link in Health Care Provision. The precise details of any of the apprenticeship are dependent on a number of factors that may be subject to change at various stages of the training and qualifications already obtained, however, the information below will provide an overview of the envisaged training requirements of the apprenticeship.


The apprentice will attend a FE College one day and one night a week to study for the Level 3 Diploma in the relevant Engineering course for the first two years and potentially the Level 4 Diploma in the latter two years subject to review.


During the first year the apprentice will attend a training centre on block release to achieve the PEO level 2 in engineering. Once this has been achieved, the apprentice will then commence their full Level 3 training, which will take place within the employing Trust / Organisation and NYNHSAC. The apprentice will also be required to study the relevant Functional Skills at level 2 (dependant on GCSE results).


The apprentice may also at some stage of the apprenticeship attend additional courses, depending on availability for example:

 C&G 2377 In-Service Inspection & Testing of Mechanical Equipment (PAT)

 C&G 2382 IEE 17th Edition Regulations

 Steam Plant Maintenance

The apprenticeship will commence during the week commencing 27th August 2018, subject to all necessary checks being carried out, including a colour blindness test. Qualifications acceptable on entry are usually a minimum of GCSE at Grade B / 5 in Mathematics and Grade C / 4, or equivalent, in at least 4 other subjects to include a science based subject.
