An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS) to join our existing team to further develop the virology, serology and molecular microbiology service at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM). This is a substantive, full time post (37.5 hours) over a 7 day period, although job share would be considered from suitable applicants.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Specialist BMS to join our team. You must be a strong team player who has a positive attitude to change. You must have excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful applicant will work as part of a team of 14 virology staff based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site. Applicants will be expected to have significant virology, serology or molecular microbiology experience. Please note that this is not a trainee post and applicants without the IBMS Specialist portfolio or equivalent qualification will not be considered. The RSUH hospital is located in Stoke-on-Trent in close proximity to the M6. Culturally diverse major conurbations and the rural delights of the Peak District National Park are all within easy reach. The Microbiology Department at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and clinical services for two acute Hospitals, local GUM clinics and a wide range of community based health providers. We also provide laboratory services to GPs and wider service users in the surrounding area. The virology and molecular microbiology department has a range of equipment including COBAS 6000, Vidas, Liaison and COBAS 4800, Ampliprep and Taqman.
