Anatomical Pathology Technician - Band 4 - 37.5 hours per week - Permanent

We are looking for a newly qualified or Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join our mortuary team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Trust has two mortuaries; one at Sandwell General Hospital and the other at City Hospital, Birmingham.

Our service, which is HTA licensed, provides a comprehensive range of services that includes Digital and Full Coronal post-mortems. The successful candidate will have at least twelve months experience of working with the deceased within a mortuary environment. You will be expected to train towards the RSPH Certificate in anatomical Pathology. You will have excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and have a flexible approach to working with the ability to work under pressure. It is essential that you possess a pleasant and approachable disposition whilst being sympathetic and understanding. You will be required to demonstrate an empathetic nature towards the deceased and their family at interview.

Full training will be given and you will be expected to take part in all aspects of mortuary work and contribute to maintaining our high quality service. The Department operates a 24 hour cross site on-call service outside of our core hours and you will be expected to fully participate in this as part of your contract once you are trained and competent. You will also be required to work across the two sites as part of a rota system.

The Midland Metropolitan Hospital is being built in Smethwick and will be open in Spring 2019. It will be the single acute hospital for Sandwell and West Birmingham, providing state of the art healthcare facilities for the population. The Midland Metropolitan will house the emergency department, maternity, acute inpatient wards and operating theatres. Sandwell Hospital remains the site for the Trust headquarters. As well as providing outpatient services, day case surgery and intermediate care beds, the Sandwell Treatment Centre will have a large urgent care centre. The City Hospital site will provide outpatient care and day case surgery from the Birmingham Treatment Centre. Intermediate care beds will remain on the City Hospital site along with the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre.
