CONSULTANT PHYSICIAN IN RESPIRATORY & GENERAL MEDICINE

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our friendly team. The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a committed full-time Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine. Queen’s Hospital is a forward-thinking, friendly district general hospital with a cohesive respiratory department that already provides a wide range of core respiratory services and has good working relationships with larger neighbouring Trusts. Burton Hospital is and will be closely collaborating with Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and this will bring more opportunity to develop services further. The new appointee will be encouraged to develop a sub-specialty interest and there will be opportunity to develop non-clinical interests as well.

The Trust wishes to expand and strengthen respiratory services provided. The successful candidate will help shape and deliver our emergency and specialist respiratory services. This posts will increase the Consultant establishment to 5 Respiratory Physicians and will join a clinical team of 2 lung cancer nurses , 1 TB nurse, and 3 respiratory nurses. Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy services are well established. All sub-specialty interests will be welcomed and the Trust has indicated its intention to invest in developments and support individuals to develop areas of interest both clinical and non-clinical at any stage in their career. An interest in airways disease would be particularly welcome and there will be huge opportunity to shape COPD and asthma services in the region and develop respiratory care closer to home.

This is a full time post with 10 PA allocation which includes a commitment to a 1:16 General Medical rota. It is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new consultant contract (2003). Further conditions have been implemented by the Trust that have been negotiated with the Medical and Dental Local Negotiating Committee. The national salary scale for Consultant appointments will apply (YC72).

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC and hold a licence to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.
