Gastrointestinal Surgery, Surgical Assessment Unit

(Full/Part Time)

Do you want to develop your acute surgical skills?

We are looking for enthusiastic motivated individuals who thrive on the challenge of this fast paced area. You must be able to work on your own initiative and be forward thinking with good prioritisation and organisational skills. Excellent communication skills are key not only to improving your patients experience but also to contributing towards effective teamwork.

Ward 8 is a 30 bedded Gastrointestinal surgical assessment unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary. The area receives all acute general surgical admissions including upper and lower gastro intestinal disorders either directly from the Emergency department or direct referrals from GP’s for admission. In addition the unit has a dedicated triage area which includes both ambulatory and a 4 bedded trolley area for assessment prior to decision to admit.

There are great opportunities to develop both in the admission unit and the assessment area to enhance both your assessment and surgical skills.
In return you will have your own personal support through the ward team and practice development nurse in order to meet your own development needs.
We also offer bespoke rotational opportunities available between the surgical assessment unit, our inpatient elective GI surgery ward and gastroenterology. These can be arranged between two or all three areas dependent upon your wishes and needs.
