Applications are invited for vacancies in clinical pharmacology & therapeutics training programmes at ST3 level across England, Scotland and Wales (where posts are available),starting between 1 August and 31 December 2018; in the event that the specialty does not participate in the second round of recruitment, posts could start up until April 2018.

The opportunity to undertake training in this specialty and in general (internal) medicine (thus gaining dual certification) will be offered in most instances; however, this will be at the discretion of the employing trust and deanery in each case, and will thus be clarified/confirmed by the trust and/or deanery in each case.

The application window opens on Wednesday 31 January at 10.00am (UK time) and closes on Wednesday 21 February at 4.00pm (UK time). You will not be able to submit your application after this time. Please ensure that you have completed all the relevant sections of the application form as missing information will deem your application incomplete and it will not be considered.

Post number information is published to the ST3 website as confirmed by each region and provisional information will be available by the opening date for applications, please note that numbers tend to increase during the round. The website of each region has information about their training programme.

Completion of a substantive programme in this specialty will lead to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or a Combined Programme Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR CP).

Recruitment both to substantive national training number (NTN) posts and shorter-term locum appointment for training (LAT) posts are carried out simultaneously in this recruitment round. Depending on availability, you will have the option to be considered for either or both types of post. LAT posts are only available in Scotland and Wales.

Recruitment to this specialty in this round will be managed by Health Education North West, who will manage all long/shortlisting of applications, host all interviews, and make offers on behalf of all regions.

Candidates will not need to give preferences of particular regions or posts at the time of application. Those candidates who are subsequently long/shortlisted for interview will be invited to give preferences around the time of interview.

A region may offer the opportunity to train in an academic post on a programme in this specialty (academic clinical fellowship or other programme); but this will not be the case usually, so please check regions’ websites for more information.

It is stipulated in the person specification that certain criteria must be completed by the ‘published deadline’. In this round this date is 1 August 2018. If you are not able to complete the outstanding area by this date your application will not be able to progress.

Eligibility Criteria for recruitment to Specialty Training 2018 – Immigration Requirements

You are eligible to be considered for clinical pharmacology & therapeutics training in this round if:

  • You are a UK or EEA national
  • You are a non-UK or non-EEA national and your immigration status allows you to work without restriction in the UK. For example, if you have Tier 1 or dependent status, and no restriction against working as a doctor or dentist in training
  • You are a non-UK or non-EEA national who has limited leave to remain in the UK and do not fall into one of the above categories. You will require Tier 2 sponsorship and will be subject to the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT)
  • You are a non-UK or non-EEA national, you graduated from a UK medical or dental school, your immigration status currently entitles you to work in the Foundation Programme and where you would have previously been eligible for Tier 1 (PSW). You will need to apply for Tier 2 sponsorship, but you will be exempt from the RLMT in this instance.

Applicants who are subject to the RLMT may only be considered if there is no suitable UK or EEA national candidate for the post.

Evidence of immigration status should normally consist of a biometric residence card, date stamped passport, and accompanying letter from the Home Office. Please visit their website for more information.
