NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) performs a vital role that benefits the entire nation. From frontline nurses to the administrative staff who support them, each and every NHSBT employee is saving and improving lives.

Working collaboratively with a variety of important departments such as Patient Services, Hospital Services and the Manufacturing and Testing Departments, you will take responsibility for ensuring a continuous supply of blood products are collected and delivered to meet the needs of the patients. Putting the needs of the donors above all else, you will ensure they have a positive experience while they are in your care, and remain enthusiastic about donating again in the future. Ensuring your team are complying with all regulatory guidelines, you will ensure the collected product is stored and delivered safely, working to ensure that key performance targets are met. You will also train your staff to ensure they are able to meet these safety targets, and support their own career development with clear performance management.

As you will sometimes need to stay away from home for overnight stays, you will need to have the flexibility to occasionally work irregular hours. A registered Nurse with current NMC registration, you will have experience of supervising multi-disciplinary staff at a senior level, and conducting clinical audits as required. With the confidence to present educational materials and good IT skills, you’ll believe in leading by example – guiding your teams by demonstrating your own exceptional nursing capabilities and helping them to develop their own skills. If you also have experience of coaching staff plus a teaching or post-graduate qualification, that would be even better (but isn’t strictly necessary). What is more crucial is that you share our enthusiasm for this world-leading service and are passionate about helping us improve and develop it wherever possible. A natural leader, your communication and persuasion skills will be second to none.

Please note: this post will attract an Outer London High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (subject to a minimum payment of £3,553 per annum and a maximum payment of £4,528 per annum).

The normal working hours for this role are 75 hours per fortnight. The working days are to be agreed with the successful candidate, but may involve evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
