The Role


We are currently recruiting 2 enthusiastic, highly motivated Consultant Paediatricians with an expertise to complement those within the department (this post), and one ideally with a cardiology special interest. These are substantive replacement roles. The post holders will be expected to support and develop the relevant services. As part of the job plan, the post holders will also participate in 3 clinics per week. The duties will include 1 in 10 on call covering general paediatrics and Neonates. There is prospective cover for annual and study leave.

These are whole-time post and will be offered under the terms of the New Consultant Contract.

All consultants have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their department, and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinical department.

The post holder will be based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow but will be expected to undertake duties such as outpatient clinics at other sites for which the Trust is responsible (St Margret’s, Epping and Herts and Essex Hospital, Bishops Stortford).

The successful candidate will be involved in training across the Trust and will support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The individual will need to demonstrate professional excellence and efficient delivery of care in view of the clinical caseload associated with the post.

The reformed health service requires that consultants become increasingly involved in the management and administration of resources in their departments. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Associate Medical Director, Clinical Service Group Lead, Operations manager and Head of Nursing in these matters and to be active in promoting changes which improve the delivery of service throughout the Trust.
