We are a pioneering research active organisation and we are proud to be doing things differently; whether that be redefining the shape of the local health and care system through our innovative plans for integrated care, or developing new services such as our Frail Older Person’s Assessment Service and our Medically Fit for Discharge Ward.

As well as creating the future, we also know the importance of providing really good, safe, and caring services for our patients. Our iCARE ethos sets out the principles which every member of our staff works to, ensuring good communication, attitude, respect and care for the hospital environment. Our patients tell us we’re getting this right, with our Friends and Family Test results consistently above 95 per cent (patients ‘extremely likely’ or ‘likely’ to recommend us to their friends and family).

Applications are invited for the fixed term or permanent post of a Consultant Physician with an interest in Stroke Medicine. The stroke team is currently part of the Elderly care team and the both are fully integrated with General Internal Medicine.
YDH provides the following stroke services:

• Hyperacute and Acute stroke
• 24/7 stroke Thrombolysis supported by the AGWS stroke network
• Dedicated TIA clinics
• Outpatient clinics
• Rehabilitation through to South Petherton Community Hospital and Early Supported Discharge
• Stroke Research.

There are 4 HASU beds in the combined acute cardiac and stroke care unit. A further 12 bed acute stroke unit is based on ward 8B, providing acute and short term assessment of all stroke patients. The unit is supported by a stroke specialist and a dedicated stroke team. Rapid access TIA clinic has been running since 2004 providing rapid assessment with agreed protocols for brain imaging (MRI) and carotid imaging.

The stroke team also provides Consultant Physician support to the state-of-the-art, purpose built 16 bed stroke unit at the newly reopened South Petherton Community Hospital (SPCH).

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
