Locations/Shift Patterns Available:

Slough (Upton Hospital) and Tilehurst – weekdays 8.45am – 12.45pm and Sunday clinics 8.45am – 1.15pm

Langley, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Reading and Thatcham – weekdays 8.30am – 17.00pm

Pay Rate:

Day rate: £11.60+ per hour paid weekly

Sunday/Bank Holiday rate: £22.97+ per hour paid weekly

*please note, predominantly day shifts are available for this post. Pay rate will increase for “Fringe” locations (inc Slough, Langley, Maidenhead and Bracknell)

Working in partnership with Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Professionals are keen to hear from experienced and enthusiastic Dental Nurses wishing to work flexibly within the Community Dental Team. The nurse will have a flexible, bank contract and may be asked to work in any of the Community Dental Clinics within Berkshire to cover staff leave, training and sickness (travel between sites will be paid for time and mileage, however, travel to your work base will not be covered)

The service provides care to patients who have additional needs and are unable to receive care in general dental practice. This includes patients with learning and physical disabilities, complex medical problems, mental health problems and dementia.

Responsibilities Include:

  • To assist in the provision of high quality primary clinical dental care for child and adult patients with special needs who fulfill the criteria for referral and treatment within the service and who cannot be accommodated by a General Dental Practitioner.
  • The dental nurse may be required to participate in health promotion, screening, dental epidemiological surveys and work with undergraduate or postgraduate dental trainees and professionals complimentary to dentistry.
  • To take part in the Berkshire Dental Access Centre scheme and provide primary dental care for patients not registered or unable to receive emergency care with a General Dental Practitioner under NHS arrangements.
  • Providing treatment under sedation utilising personal skills and training or working with appropriately trained others to provide such care

In order to apply for a post you must:

  • Have a minimum of 6 months experience working in the capacity of Dental Nurse (knowledge of inhalation sedation is desirable)
  • Experience within a community dental service environment is desirable
  • Hold an active GDC registration
  • Have good communication skills and demonstrate evidence of a strong team working ethic.
  • You must be able to take direction and instruction and be honest and trustworthy
  • Proven track record and ability to work within a team and with full independence
  • As the role will include travel across various locations, the post holder will require a full, clean driving license and a car.

*in order to remain an active bank worker you must work a minimum of 1 shift in any 6 month period

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist mental health and community health services to a population of around 900,000 within Berkshire. Operating more than 100 sites across the county including community hospitals, clinics and specialist practices, they also provide care and therapy to people in their own homes. A vast majority of BHFT patients are cared for and supported in their own homes, however, the trust also have 216 mental health inpatient beds and 180 community hospital beds in five locations.

NHS Professionals works in partnership with Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to manage and provide their temporary staffing requirements. We are an integral partner to the trust to ensure staffing numbers are sufficient to provide the care within the county.
