Applications are invited for the above post in the Histopathology section of Cellular Pathology, based in the Bexley Wing. The post holder will be responsible for providing effective supervision, leadership to a team of Expert Practitioners and will assist Consultant Pathologists in specimen dissection and reporting of simple cases. The post holder will be responsible for a managing the 100,000 genome project cancer diagnostic pathways within the department, which involves the integration of histopathological, Immunocytochemical and molecular investigations.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, suitably qualified, highly experienced individual to be the lead scientist. You will be responsible for providing service delivery and ensuring governance (Quality, Health and Safety, Audit and Training) is maintained. You will hold responsibility for a number of staff working in the department and will support future developments. You will also be expected to contribute to the management and development of the laboratory service.

An advanced knowledge of all sections in Histopathology is essential as well as experience of leading teams. In addition applicants must hold the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection. You should demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills with a flexible and adaptable attitude.

You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. For Band 1 roles the Trust will pay the cost of the DBS checks and refund to you the cost of the update service. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
