In our quest to deliver patient-focused quality care we are re-configuring our pharmacy services and are looking for highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Specialist Pharmacist to join our forward thinking, friendly and expanding team of assistants, technicians and pharmacists.
HMP Woodhill currently operates an electronic prescribing system within the healthcare department

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Healthcare and the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist at HMP Woodhill, and the CNWL Lead Pharmacist for Offender Care to drive forward medicine optimisation for patients in secure settings. They will be responsible for the following:

• Provides a high quality clinical pharmacy and medicines management service to the service area in line with best practice and current evidence.
• Ensures current professional requirements for service delivery are met.
• Reviews medication on an individual patient basis and patient group basis, offering advice to patients, healthcare professionals and prescribers when changes are made or where the needs are complex or sensitive
• Develops and undertakes prescribing related audits to encourage practitioners to critically appraise their current practice and adopt best practice.
• Challenges individual practitioner prescribing to ensure safe and effective use of medicines.
• Provides pharmaceutical advice to health and associated staff as required.
• Provides information to patients to ensure they understand all aspects of their medication.
• Participate in the provision of medicines information, liaising with the regional MI Centre where appropriate.
• Maintains and manages the Non-Formulary log
• Maintains and manages the unlicensed and off-label documentation
• Undertake clinical visits to designated House units

The post holder will be involved in the development and implementation of new and innovative pharmaceutical services to prisoners in line with “A pharmacy service for prisoners” and RPS Medicine Optimisation documents.

The post holder will be able to work independently and collaboratively, and rise to the challenge of this demanding yet rewarding role.
