Consultant Radiologist

2x 1.0 wte Radiology

Applications are invited for 2 consultant Radiologists. The successful candidate will join a team of enthusiastic, friendly and dedicated radiologists working within this 590 bed District General Hospital.

We are looking for General Radiologists, but should you have an interest in Breast, MSK or paediatrics we would be very interested in hearing from you.

The posts can be either Full or Part time.

The Radiology department is well equipped, having two 128 slice CT scanner, two 1.5T MRI scanners, digital screening rooms, a gamma camera, and updated new US machines. We are currently progressing with a Managed Equipment Service tender to ensure up to date machines in the future.

The Breast Centre is the base for the Wiltshire Breast Screening Service, for Swindon and North and West Wiltshire. There are two mobile units as well as the static units in the Great Western. This unit also provides the symptomatic service to the population.

The Radiologist team is a happy, functional and hard-working team. It is important to note that there is a Private practice which is equally shared.

Recent changes have been made to improve the on-call system. The Department now has a Consultant presence from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and for 4 hours Saturday and Sunday.Consultants remain on call for a further 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday, outside of these hours we are supported by an outsourced reporting company.

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of both acute hospital and community services. It serves the local population of Swindon, Wiltshire and parts of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire. The Great Western Hospital itself is a large modern hospital, which opened in December 2002 with excellent transport links.

Swindon, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds

Swindon is a thriving town set between the Cotswolds to the North and West, the Upper Thames valley to the East and the Marlborough Downs to the South. London, Bristol and Oxford are all within easy reach, approximately one hour by car with good links by public transport. The rail journey to London Paddington from Swindon is approximately 55 minutes and Heathrow Airport is only an hour away from Swindon by car.

There are beautiful villages with excellent housing in the surrounding rural areas of Wiltshire, the Cotswolds and Marlborough. Marlborough is a bustling market town located in Savernake Forest only 10 miles away from the Great Western and offers a variety of housing and renowned educational institutions. Cirencester, capital of the Cotswolds, is only twenty miles away with great amenities and picturesque surroundings.

Current employees should be aware that this position is advertised as a GWH position and appointment ends any TUPE protection.

All candidates are required to pay for their own DBS check where applicable. Standard DBS check costs £26 and will be recovered from the first months pay; Enhanced DBS check costs £44 and will be recovered over the first 2 months pay. (£22 per month)

Bank posts requiring a DBS check; payment must be made prior to commencing.

Apprentices are exempt from DBS payment.
