An exciting opportunity has arisen. The Children’s Community Nursing Service in Newcastle are looking for 3 Band 6 Nurse Specialists to be part of team and be involved in new developments within the service. The new posts have arisen after a review of the current service provision and the changing needs of children in the city. The developments will ensure a flexible and responsive nursing service for children and their families in Newcastle upon Tyne.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Children’s Nurses who are looking to develop their career in Children’s Community Nursing. This is a specialist role which requires a confident and competent practitioner.

The Children’s Community Nursing service is part of Children’s services at the Great North Children’s Hospital. The service enjoys excellent working relationships with many of the multidisciplinary teams at GNCH, providing ongoing nursing care in the community and schools in the city.

The role and responsibilities

    • To work as part of a team to provide a clinically effective, evidence based service for children/young people with complex health needs/and or technical dependency in their own environment.

    • To be responsible for an allocated caseload for the assessment of care needs and the planning, implementation and evaluation of support and interventions within the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.

    • With clinical supervision and guidance the post holders are expected to manage their own caseload and to work independently and as part of a team.

    • To facilitate early discharge from hospital and deliver of care in the child’ own environment.

    • To promote the physical and emotional well-being of children with special needs.

· To teach qualified and unqualified staff and carers clinical procedures and assess competence in relation to individual children, using evidence based practice
