Are you a motivated, enthusiastic Midwife who would like to work in the one of the busiest maternity unit s in South Central, currently undertaking in excess of 6,000 births per year? We are delighted to offer a Midwife an opportunity to work in a unit offering a diversity of experiences in all aspects of maternity care.

The successful candidates will be required to:

To be responsible for delivering and maintaining a high standard of day to day evidence based practice for all women in the designated clinical area/caseload

Maintain and continually develop in-depth specialist knowledge of midwifery practice relevant to the individual clinical area

Engage with women and their families to encourage and promote woman centred care, normalising their experience as much as possible

Provide support and to deputise for the team leader as and when required.

Be a source of reference regarding Health Education and Social Care

Act as mentor for student midwives

The successful candidate will have an orientation period and support is available from our Practice educator midwives. We have a number of educational opportunities including clinical skills days, health and safety days and a variety of clinical educational opportunities, which are offered in-house.

Band 6

Essential Requirements for the post are:

  • Current RM registration with the NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
  • Minimum of 1-year post RM qualification with evidence of continuing learning.
  • Able to meet a minimum of 4 of the following 8 competencies:
    • Assist as scrub midwife for obstetric surgery

    • Perineal repair

    • Perform and interpret CTG’s

    • Perform IV Cannulation, venepuncture and administration of IV drugs

    • Management of Epidurals including giving ‘top ups’

    • Parent Education

    • Conduct and manage antenatal clinics

    • Able to coach students and new staff members

      Desirable requirements include:

  • Evidence of ward management/teaching (formal/informal)

  • Teaching and Assessing Course

  • Other professional courses relevant to area.

    Drivers license – essential for community posts
