NHS Blood and Transplant is a vital area of modern healthcare, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. As an experienced, registered nurse with current nursing & midwifery registration, your talents can make a positive difference to our Therapeutic Apheresis Services team based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital & 8 other sites across the country.

The Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) team delivers a range of therapeutic apheresis treatments to patients and supports the regional Cancer Network Stem Cell Transplant programme. Treatments carried out by TAS include plasma exchange for Neurology, Renal and Haematology patients; red cell exchange in support of sickle cell disease. Stem cell harvests for bone marrow transplantation are collected for patients across Yorkshire & 2 donor registries, Anthony Nolan & British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR). All treatments are carried out using the most modern up to date cell separation equipment.

As a Nurse Practitioner with TAS you will work closely with the Lead Nurse to provide all aspects of clinical care for patients and stem cell donors. This involves working as part of a specialised team, acting as a source of clinical expertise and supervising new and less experienced staff, including student nurses. Most importantly, it means maintaining the highest standards, and ensuring best practice and clinical effectiveness. The team performs treatments for NHS Trusts across the Yorkshire region; Driving is an integral part of the job. You will therefore need to hold a full driving license and have access to a vehicle. Participation in a weekend and bank holiday on call rota in addition to your contracted hours will also be required.

As well as your nursing registration, you will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate clinical area, such as Haematology, Neurology, Acute Medicine/Surgery, ICU/CCU or dialysis. In addition you should have experience of mentoring, teaching and daily clinical/ward management. Success in this role is dependant on excellent communication skills, use of initiative and the ability to get the best out of others.
