NHS Jobs improvements on the way

As part of the Department of Health's commitment to continuous improvement of digital services, work has commenced to discover how NHS Jobs could better support the recruitment and retention of health and social care staff in future.

NHS Jobs online recruitment service is available to 1.7 million NHS employees, other health-related professionals and anyone with an interest in working for the NHS in England and Wales.

Much has changed in the digital world since NHS Jobs was launched in 2003 and so to ensure that the recruitment experience is as rewarding for candidates and employers, alike, we’re working on identifying what is really needed to provide a service that assists with digital health recruitment practice for the future.

On average, NHS Jobs posts around 30,000 vacancies a month and handles 4.5 million applications a year. All 154 NHS trusts in England, seven Local Health Boards in Wales plus other NHS-funded health providers benefit from the end-to-end application tracking service NHS Jobs provides.

Saving the NHS millions of pounds

The NHS is the biggest employer in Europe and the fifth largest in the world. NHS Jobs has been credited with saving the NHS more than £1 million a week in recruitment advertisement costs.

The new service will be designed to keep pace with the ever evolving digital environmental we're living in and have the capacity, resources and technical flexibility to respond to changes in a timely and cost efficient way, in keeping with the government's digital service standard.

The new version is being referred to as NHS Jobs 3. It will take into account the views of our users and is working closely with system administrators, recruitment managers and employers across England and Wales.

How you can help

The current development phase will provide insight into what we need to do next. NHS Jobs 3 is expected to not only fulfil all 18 criteria of the digital service standard, it is being designed to streamline health recruitment to ensure the NHS has the right people in the right places, providing the right services at the right time.

Over the course of its development we will be seeking your expert knowledge of using the current NHS Jobs system and the changes you believe will enhance the user experience. We may seek your views from time to time through online surveys and discussions at regional and national user groups.
