York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is proud of our work to reduce the incidence of Healthcare Associated Infections. In order to support and maintain this, an exciting and challenging opportunity has risen for a newly created Lead Nurse role within our acute Infection Prevention and Control Team.


Based on the York Hospital site, the post holder will support the Deputy DIPC to strengthen the infection prevention and control contribution to patient and service user experience and safety across the Trust.


Working collaboratively with key stakeholders across the Trust and wider health economy, you will provide clinical expertise and support which inspires and motivates others, empowering them to ensure the highest standards of infection prevention and control practice are delivered in line with Trust policies and best practice.


A key area of responsibility will be to lead and develop the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses within the team, by providing expert vision and inspirational leadership alongside mentorship and supervision. This is an exciting time as our new Lead Nurse will be responsible for developing the team in its new service delivery model.


You will also take a lead in overseeing the inputting of data to the Public Health England database and internal surveillance, along with formal presentation of results and findings to internal and external stakeholders. You will be patient focused, as well as being able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal and team working skills.


A broad experience in general nursing and experience in infection prevention and control is essential.

Day 1; if shortlisted, we will invite you to an Assessment Centre onWednesday 19th September2018 where we will ask you to participate in 2 activities. The activities may consist of a hand written/typed exercise, or a group activity / single activity where you may need to present to a board panel. All details will be provided on the day and there is no preparation required in advance. The Assessment Centre will be based in York. Details of the arrangements will be provided to you if you are shortlisted to attend.


Day 2; if you are successful at our Assessment Centre, you will be invited to an interview, which will be held on Thursday 20th September 2018.

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £30.20 for a standard check and £48.20 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
