An exciting new managed healthcare services organisation, Healthcare Partners Ltd (HPL), has been created which will transform the delivery of interventional, support and facilities services to the Royal Surrey County Hospital Trust and other potential customers. The aim is to deliver significant operational, quality and financial benefits in procurement, contracts, medical equipment and servicing, through a full managed service provision. HPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Surrey and a new business model which we want to develop as a leading service provider in its field.

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced Theatre Buyer to join our buying team within Supply Chain Services which comprises 27 people.

This role is banded as 5 on Agenda for Change terms or equivalent salary on HPL terms and conditions.

You will be accountable and responsible for

  • Supports the Supply Chain and Performance Manager in the delivery of an efficient and effective procurement service to meet the non-pay requirements of the Trust.

  • Assist with the delivery of a strategy for managing procurement within the Trust.

  • Manage the SBS Auto Create function and Purchase Order notifications

  • Support the Category Managers in maintaining the procurement work plan.

  • Ensure best practice and best value for money for the area and promote the service to all users.

  • Provide procurement data for information and/or analysis to Trust staff.

  • Under direction of the Senior Category Managers actively investigate non-Medical-Surgical product ranges procured for the Trust and develop action plans to standardise and rationalise products for increased savings and efficiencies.

In addition you will work in a theatre procurement team where you will be required to raise orders, seek “best buy” opportunities and experience buying a full range of goods and services an acute Trust require.

As part of the Category Managment function you will be the first point of contact for information on a wide range of products and recommend supplier and sourcing options and keep abreast of new product developments and help identify where these may be of value to the Trust. You will recommend cost savings opportunities and will deliver value for money and efficiencies by adopting best practice buying principles.

A good knowledge of theatres and particularly orthopaedic implants, instruments and managing loan sets is vital to this role as is managing suppliers’ representatives to be on site to assist with surgical procedures.

You will be educated to a minimum of A level and ideally have CIPS level 4 or above, be working towards this or have equivalent experience in a procurement and supply chain capacity.

You will possess:

  • 3 years sound track record of purchasing or advising on purchasing decisions in a large, complex organisation

  • Experience of analysing complex data (ideally procurement data)

  • Experience of purchasing in an environment where obtaining stakeholder agreement through influence rather than mandate is required.

  • Negotiation skills

A willingness to be flexible team player and to be prepared to cover other areas to your normal responsibilities at times of holiday or sickness is essential.
