NHS Careers has launched a new website, Nursing Careers, to promote the wide range of nursing careers available, challenge misconceptions and encourage people to consider a career in nursing.
The website is launched as nurse training shifts from a mixture of diploma and degree courses to an all-graduate entry profession by 2013. In the next three years, the nursing profession needs to attract enough applicants to fill thousands more degree places.
Key features of the new website include an interactive personality quiz to help people explore their suitability to different areas of nursing, real life stories and video interviews with nurses talking about their roles, the benefits of nursing and tackling some of the misconceptions about pay, progression and status. The website also offers comprehensive information about entering the profession via a variety of routes and a resource centre with a suite of downloadable materials to support schools, universities and NHS organisations to promote careers in nursing.
