As a Pharmacy Technician at Royal Papworth Hospital, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Pharmacy team and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of medications to our patients. This service will include discharge prescription preparation, medicines reconciliation, patient education and managing continuity of the service. You will also be asked to support the training of junior staff members and Pre-Registration Pharmacy professionals (dependant on experience). You will also be able to spend some time in the Pharmacy dispensary.

The Pharmacy prides itself on being able to offer many training and development opportunities such as the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician course and the Clinical Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician course along with a variety of in-house and external training programmes such as Medicines Reconciliation. Whilst working at Royal Papworth, you will have the opportunity to experience different areas such as our Cardiology, Surgery and Thoracic wards where you will be able to gain further knowledge whilst working alongside our specialised Pharmacists.

Main duties of the job

*To undertake patient consultations in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures to ensure maximum concordance with treatment.

*Act as a role and provide training and support for new members of staff and students.

*Ensure that patients receive excellent patient care, including managing Pharmacy waiting times for outpatients and ward discharges.

*Assist clinical Pharmacists in identifying drug-related problems by undertaking patient medication histories, ensuring patients receive optimal treatment with medication (once suitably accredited).

*Assess the suitability, quality and identity of PODs for extended use on the wards and as discharge medicines.

*Answer queries within competency from healthcare professionals, patients, and members of the public, referring appropriate queries to the relevant member of the Pharmacy team when necessary.

*Carry out accurate and efficient dispensing of prescriptions in accordance with the agreed safe systems of work practice and current medicines legislation.

*Perform a 'final' accuracy check on clinically screened prescriptions in accordance with Trust procedures.
